Dr. Shae Steward is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in cataract surgery.

Dr. Steward was born and raised an hour outside of the Birmingham area as one of five children. After graduating from Oxford High School, she completed her undergraduate degree at Auburn University graduating with Magna Cum Laude honors in Biomedical Sciences. She continued her education at University of South Alabama where she earned her Medical Degree and she completed her Comprehensive Ophthalmology residency at University of Arkansas Medical Sciences.

When asked why she chose Ophthalmology she states, “The eyes are responsible for your vision, your experience of the world, your independence and to have the knowledge and necessary skills to improve or preserve that ability provides me with great purpose.”

Dr. Steward is married with two children. She enjoys spending her free time with her family at church, in the outdoors, hiking, reading, crafting, cooking, traveling, and watching Auburn football.

What do you love most about being an eye doctor/surgeon? One of the most rewarding things in Ophthalmology is the ability to drastically change a patient’s life experience by improving or safeguarding their eyesight.

What career would you pursue if you weren’t in medicine? Engineering, Finance… open a coffee shop

Do you have any pets? Yes, a lab named Brady

How do you like to spend your time away from the office? I enjoy spending my time with my kids/family/friends, cooking, crafting, reading, decorating, hiking, traveling, and going to church.
